SUTIL stands for 'Sustainable Tourism Living' and is also a reference to the Spanish word 'sutil', meaning 'subtle'.

This reflects the project's core philosophy of promoting gentle, respectful and sustainable forms of travel that avoid the negative impacts of mass tourism.

It focuses on activating coliving hubs and empowering young people to create a positive local impact through responsible travel and civic engagement.

Why?

As travel increases post-pandemic, new challenges emerge:

• A growing disconnect between visitors and locals
• The rise of mass tourism, gentrification, and short-term thinking
• Youth lacking tools to understand their impact while traveling

SUTIL responds by using coliving spaces as learning hubs to connect young nomadic travellers and local communities, providing the tools and education needed for meaningful, sustainable interaction.

What we want to achieve

• Use coliving hubs to educate and empower young people (18–35 years old).
• Promote sustainable tourism practices in rural and urban contexts.
• Bridge social, cultural, and generational divides through real-life interaction between locals and travelers.
• Support colivings with practical tools and content around sustainable travel and local engagement to build bridges to their local communities.
